Thrifty Thursdays
Y'all, this is going to be my new thing! I'm going to do a segment on thrifting every Thursday. Whether that's tips, tricks, places to shop or just outfits that I've thrifted for me (or Silas - I don't even bother trying to find Matt clothes), I'm going to post them every Thursday! My hope is that you'll be inspired (if you're not already) to give thrifting a try or at least be encouraged that SOMEONE else out there (that's me) is normal just like you and has no money for clothes either, so she's just doing the best that she can. My clothes may have only cost me $10 but they're "worth" a heck of a lot more and I'm sure as heck NOT complaining that I didn't pay full retail! Here is the perfect outfit for thrifting. Now, the only item that was actually "thrifted", which was really consignment, are my jeans. They are Tommy Hilfiger and made so well, I want to live in them. Everything else was bought at a discount/sale. Can you tell a pattern here? I NEVER pay full price for anything. Why would I when I can get stuff on sale? Don't waste your money! Use it for things that matter - like a family vacation, or retirement (personally, I vote for vacation)!
What makes this outfit so great, especially in SC, is that it can be worn in cool or warm weather and has easy transitions. It's super stylish to wear things around your waste these days, like you did back in high school. And coincidentally the flannel/plaid/boyfriend look is still in - so I've got that covered too. It's been unseasonably warm here, but cooler in the mornings and evenings. You literally never can plan what to wear for the day until you step outside. This is perfect for keeping you warm but not weighing you down when it gets hot. ALSO, this look is great because it's easy to change out of! Especially note the shoes - I HATE trying on clothes when i have on tight skinny jeans, boots with socks - it's just a disaster. Wear something you can easily change in and out of (and hair out of the face) and you'll have a much faster and more pleasant experience in the fitting rooms, trust me.
T-shirt (Old Navy) // Plaid Button Down (American Eagle - Men's) // Jeans (Tommy Hilfiger) // Flats (Nine West)
I promise, I got ALL of these things on major discount - even the shoes! You can look good, without spending too much money. I know I don't look like a model or anything, but I've got some sense of style and at least I look put together. It didn't break the bank and I wear all these pieces, all the time, with different looks/outfits. Look for pieces that are timeless (or basic neutral colors that will go with anything) and you can wear them a ton of different ways. You're closet will always be happy and so will your wallet (and your husband)! Happy thrifting! <3 Amanda
