Maternity Fashion Can Be Stylish

Maternity Fashion Can Be Stylish

Pregnancy fashion has come a long way in recent years. My mom told me when she was pregnant with me back in the late 80s, that women just wore bigger clothes to compensate for their growing waistlines. After all, that's what everyone else had been doing for decades. Their fashion options were unflattering, baggy, and boring. There was no concept as “style the bump”. Apparently, women were not encouraged to embrace their ever changing bodies through this miraculous process, and we're instead supposed to just cover it up.

Well, thank goodness we have gotten past those misconceptions. I personally love styling my baby bump. I loved being pregnant with my first born, and I love being pregnant with my second. Although, with this baby I am having to style a bump a lot sooner (second child probs). But I am embracing it, and taking the opportunity to score some amazing maternity fashions.

I recently visited Motherhood, while taking the kiddo to the play place in the mall (if you live in Columbia, SC and you haven't been - you're missing out because it's a lifesaver). As soon as I got in there, I headed straight for the clearance rack. They were having a storewide sale that was buy one get 1/2 off, but personally that's just not good enough for me. I never pay retail if I don't have to. Luckily for me they were also offering an additional 30% off their clearance prices. That is where I found these amazing floral appliqué jeans. I hadn't really embraced that trend yet, so it was fun to get some denim that will work for pregnancy and is also super stylish.

I love dressing up denim. These jeans are perfect because even though they have some distressed patches, they have the beautiful blue appliqué roses, which make them unique and trendy. I really like the contrast of navy with light denim. And of course, my taupe lace up heels go with everything and add class & style to any look.

But, you can also wear these jeans casually. Casual is my specialty because I am constantly chasing a toddler, and trying to keep him out of trouble. I love when fashion combines functionality, ease and style. I've linked my exact style for you, below.

Obviously, these jeans were a great find and addition to my maternity wardrobe. I love that stores like Motherhood exist to help us moms style our pregnancy bodies in a feminine and fashionable way. It's so exciting that this generation has embraced the “styling of the baby bump”. It's such a miracle what a woman's body can create in such a short amount of time. I think we should be proud of this, and not be afraid to show it off a little.

Where do you like to shop for maternity clothes? Do you have any style tricks for dressing a baby bump? I would love to hear your thoughts below in the comments. <3 Amanda
