Things to Do with a Toddler when Traveling
Our family loves to travel and take adventures, toddler in tow. We just recently got back from a visit with my brother (and sister) in-law in Atlanta. And we often visit Charleston to see friends or the beach. Luckily for us, we are familiar with both areas, and have people to show us around. Sometimes though, it can be frustrating visiting an area you don't live in, because you don't know the lay of the land.
Fortunately, most cities have at least two or more things that are kid and family friendly, no matter how small the area. You just have to think about them a little ahead of time, so your prepared with what you want to try. No one wants to be stuck inside their entire trip, because they don't know what's available to them. Most of these activities are affordable, and some of them are even free! You can have a lot of fun, for not a lot of cash, and keep everybody entertained and happy. There's no need to be bored on any vacation with my list of things to do with your toddler while traveling.
List:
Local zoo (Columbia, SC is amazing)
Play grounds (FREE)
Libraries (FREE - most have awesome kid zones!)
Aquariums
Local museums
City pool (or stay somewhere that has a pool)
Children's museums
State forests/hiking trail/beach (FREE)
All of these activities we have done either in our own home town (quite regularly), or when traveling. Keep in mind, these are not supposed to be super exciting or entertaining, but to give everyone a break from the small confines of whatever place you're staying at (or to kill some time before nap time - am I right?). I mean, compared to Disney World, you wont earn any points as the coolest parent on Earth. But, you may just make some special and long lasting memories that your children will cherish forever, and you wont be spending a ton of money to have fun in the processes. These WILL be a hit with your toddler, so don't be afraid to venture out when you're in a new place. <3 Amanda
